Everything You Should Know…
What are Cosmetic Neurotoxins
Also known as neuromodulators, are substances that are used in cosmetic procedures to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. They work by blocking nerve signals in the muscles where they are injected. This temporarily relaxes the targeted muscles, which leads to a smoother and more youthful appearance.
Will My Face Look Unnatural?
When administered by a trained healthcare professional, in appropriate amounts and in specific areas of the face, you can achieve natural and gratifying results. So, you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines.
How Long Do Cosmetic Neurotoxins Last?
The duration of the effects of cosmetic neurotoxins can vary depending on several factors, including the specific product used, the dosage, individual metabolism, and the area of treatment. Generally, the effects of cosmetic neurotoxins last between three to six months.
What is the difference between Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all brand names for different forms of botulinum toxin type A, which is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. While they have a similar mechanism of action and purpose in cosmetic procedures, there are some differences between them:
Botox (OnabotulinumtoxinA):
Manufacturer: Allergan
Formulation: Botox is formulated with a complexing protein. This protein can potentially lead to a lower diffusion rate, meaning it stays closer to the injection site.
Onset of Action: Typically, Botox starts showing effects within 2 to 7 days.
Duration of Effects: Lasts around 3 to 4 months, though some individuals may experience results for up to 6 months.
Dysport (AbobotulinumtoxinA):
Manufacturer: Galderma
Formulation: Dysport has a smaller complexing protein, potentially allowing it to spread more easily from the injection site.
Onset of Action: It may have a slightly faster onset of action compared to Botox, with effects sometimes noticeable within 1 to 2 days.
Duration of Effects: Similar to Botox, it generally lasts around 3 to 4 months.
Xeomin (IncobotulinumtoxinA):
Manufacturer: Merz Pharmaceuticals
Formulation: Xeomin does not contain any complexing proteins, meaning it is a “naked” form of botulinum toxin. This may lead to faster onset of action.
Onset of Action: It may have a similar onset of action to Dysport, with effects sometimes noticeable within 1 to 2 days.
Duration of Effects: Generally lasts around 3 to 4 months, similar to Botox and Dysport.
